It’s time to fall in love with this region. They don’t call it the Heartland for nothing.

Are you ready to spring out of Springfield on historic Route 66? How about a trip along the mighty Ohio River? Or what about traveling to the town where the creator of Popeye characters got his inspiration?

These are just three of the 33 trips offered in this great slice of Americana. This area is home to a number of our MAD scouts, who took to the roads to find the most scenic ways around. This produced detailed turn-by-turn directions so that you can easily discover the best this region offers. Of course, it’s a good idea to take a break along the way, which is why we’ve provided information on the best outdoor areas, roadhouses and roadside attractions. There are many “interesting” stories to be told about this part of the country, and we do so via “It’s a MAD World” anecdotes—just to spice thing’s up a bit.
