New Year, New Goals Print E-mail

Just like the title says, It's a new year and I've got some goals to help me prep for this years ButtLite. Some of them shouldn't be too hard while others will take a little more work.

One of the goals will of course be to get better at routing. I'm going to be doing some shopping for a good map of the Interstate highways in the US. I always carry my state maps with me for detail but for a multi day event like this I think an overall picture will help me plot bonus locations and rest stops.

Another is to get more acquainted with my bike. Yea we go out for coffee together, we go out to dinner together, and a few times a year we even go away for the weekend together. The bad thing is that if there is ever much of a mechanical problem I wouldn't know how to solve a lot of the problems by myself that I should. I'm hoping to get a little more familiar with things like valve and throttle body adjustments, belt changes, and just an overall understanding of what does what on my bike.

The BIG goal is actually to get smaller. Like a lot of people I talk to, I've gotten more out of shape than I care to have. This not only effects something like fuel mileage, but it also effects my staminda and endurance on the bike.  The more I get out of shape the quicker I get tired which means, come riding season, I'll fatigue faster on the bike. The goal is to drop at least 30lbs by the rally and return to the gym to build up my physical endurance.

It's a new year and I'm not calling these resolutions. I think I heard on the radio that 75% of all people that make New Years Resolutions break them within two weeks. If I'm going to break a resolution I'd much rather have it be for something useless like "No more beer when I watch Survivor" or something like that. Then I won't feel bad when I break that resoltion.
